Mawlid al-Nabi

Mawlid al-Nabi (2012-02-04)

Mawlid (Maulid an-Nabi or Eid Milad an-Nabi) is a holiday to commemorate Mahomet's Birthday. It is observed on the third mount of Muslim calendar, and it is also called Barat's Night.

During that day Muslims are commemorating Mahomet's day of birth, when on the Mahomet's father Abd Allah's forehead God's light appeared. It filled Amina's womb, Mahomet's mother. Many miracles happened on that day – Earth was enlighten by unusual light, voices from heaven resounded, angels spread their wings and thrones of rulers shacked.
The holiday was born between X/XI century in Egypt.

Sunnites are celebrating the holiday on the 12th day of the third mouth of the year, and they are commemorating Mahomet's birth and death. Shiites are celebrating it 5 days later.

In Turkey it is called The Night of the Light, when people are leaving burning lamps in mosques for the night. On that day people gather together to pray and to tell stories about Mahomet's life.

According to sharia's rules, it is strictly forbidden for males and females to stay in one room. They have to be separated with the obstacle. People should also avoid talking.
